DC found his passion for music at a very early age through music such as Queen, Dire Straits, Michael Jackson, Madness and Prince.
Into his Teens, he started to gain a passion for Metal music especially the Nu-Metal scene with bands such as Korn, System of a Down and Papa Roach creating a big impact on his music tastes.
Over time bands such as Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot and Dead By April started to become major influences in DC's vocal style and brought him over to the distorted and melodic vocals he does today. It was also around this time in his life that he was listening to Iron Maiden.
It was this influence that would start to shape the live performances that captured him and made him want to become a front man.
Now DC's taste range all the way from the music he listened to from his Teen year's, Electro Metal from Europe and Metalcore from the states.
At age 12, Josh received his first guitar as a christmas gift from his parents. At age 15, he finally bought himself a tuner, dusted off the guitar after it had been sitting in the closet for 3 years, and dedicated most of his free time in trying to learn to play. His very first experience of overdriven guitars came from the rock opera - Jeff Wayne’s War of The Worlds where he immediately fell in love with the raw and aggressive sound a guitar could make, not realising how the sounds were even made!
During his early school years, Josh’s musical taste shifted through multiple genres of classic rock, dance and pop before a childhood friend showed him Guns ‘n’ Roses and, perhaps the biggest shift, Metallica. “Enter Sandman” was his gateway into more aggressive genres, as well as providing the greatest inspiration for dusting off the guitar and committing his time to the instrument. Early guitar inspirations came from the flurry of “shredders” that were popular during the 80s and early 90s, such as Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen, as well as the riff masters Tony Iommi and James Hetfield.
Nowadays, Josh’s musical taste spans multiple genres including blues, classical, folk, and electronic, but his home has always been metal, drawing inspiration from thrash, groove, death and doom metal.
Harry first took an interest in guitar when he was very young. His Grandad had an old acoustic that Harry plucked at as it leaned against the wall. It wasn't until he was 13 when his Grandad passed away that Harry decided to dedicate his time to learning how to play his grandad's electric guitar that he received.
Harry started off playing solo gigs and eventually formed a duo performing a variety of styles such as heavy metal, blues and rock. He took inspiration to play heavy music from bands like Metallica, Black Sabbath, linkin park and Tool. Early guitar inspirations came from the likes of Gary Moore, James Hetfield, John Frusciante, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Slash, Mark Knofler and Tony Iomi. Harry was hooked on learning Metallica thrash Rhythm playing early on and took much inspiration from James Hetfield's rhythm playing. Harry loved the melodic and emotional approach to lead playing that you find in songs like "Parisienne Walkways", Santana's "Brightest Star” and RHCP "I could have lied".
When Harry found Hereward he was excited by their unique sound and that their desire to not be chained down by specific genre aligned with his own. Joining the band was a natural move and has made his desire and inspiration to play and create new music stronger than ever!
Mackie’s musical career actually started behind the drum kit (that belonged to his older brother).
It has been 5 years behind the skins before he picked up the bass guitar – still staying true to the rhythm section. Deeper knowledge of the drums gave him the ability to feel the groove on another level and become a very dedicated bass player, perfectly filling the gap between the rhythm and the melody, a simple yet effective skill, of which so many musicians these days seem to overlook.
Growing up on classic rock bands like GnR, Aerosmith, AC/DC, quickly moving on to heavier arsenal of Megadeth, Maiden, Priest or Motorhead with just enough room for bands like Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits, or the almighty Johnny Cash, Mackie’s influences played key role in his style and technique.
Teaming up with Hereward felt like a natural progression, where he can unleash the power and energy on stage, playing live music!
Jamie began his journey as a musician all the way back in 2006 with keyboard being his first foray into the musical world before taking up the sticks in 2008. From there he was heavily influenced by the likes of pop punk bands such as Fall Out Boy, Green Day, and Paramore, before expanding his horizons into the more mainstream with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, The Clash, Dirty Pretty Things, and the Gorillaz to name a few. His passion for the drums grew as he also grew influence from those within the online drumming community, namely Cobus.
Musically, Jamie eventually found his footing in metal once discovering metal legends Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot and Metallica amongst many more, taking a particular interest in ‘The Rev’ and his style of music. From there, Jamie became massively influenced by Avenged Sevenfold creatively, and quickly wanted to create original music, starting multiple bands throughout his time in school and beyond, playing in a multitude of bands across many genres until he found his home in Hereward where much of the same influence is shared amongst his peers. Whilst Jamie’s musical tastes span many genres such as metal, punk, hip hop, rap, EDM, and much much more, his heart lies in a bed of heavy metal.
